I'm so glad it's Thursday! I actually have 2 fabulous Independent Women for you today... Meet Ashley Dernick who runs Recollection Vintage Rentals with her mom, Patty DePierri!
Ashley and her mom have an assortment of gorgeous vintage pieces that you can use for your wedding, event, or a styled photo shoot! Also, I am proud to say they are located in my current city, Houston, TX!
1.
What made you decide to start your own business?
My mother and I
had wanted to go into business together for many years. The deciding
factor to take the leap was our desire to be able to do what we love everyday
and to share our love of vintage design and collectibles with others.
2.
What was your biggest risk or fear about starting a business?
Our biggest
fear in starting our business was our lack of business experience!
Although we had a passion for creating and design, neither of us had any
experience running a business. We have definitely learned a lot along the
way, particularly in the area of organization and time management!
3.
How did you know what you wanted to do?
That was the
easy part! We have always had a love for timeless decor. Seeing the
beauty and grace in old, odd, and discarded items is something that we
have a knack for and we love being able to repurpose these unique pieces.
4.
What support system do you have for your business to help you stay motivated?
We have a large
family who are all very enthusiastic about the business in their own way! Our
husband/dad is perhaps our biggest fan and definitely the muscles of the
operation! He is very helpful in executing our jobs!
5. What
is your biggest challenge about running your own business?
Our biggest
challenge in running the business is attending to all the details of each job
and making sure that satisfies our need for perfection!
6.
What is the best advice you have for someone wanting to start a business?
The best
advice that we given and we have to pass along is to get to know all of
the vendors in your industry. This networking is vital to a new
business's success! Always stay true to who you are and be prepared to
work hard :-)
A huge thanks to Ashley and her mom for participating in this week's Miss Independent! I'm always so excited to see the interesting and different ways these creative ladies come up with as a business idea! So many independent women, so little time!

Very cool that they're in Houston. I'll have to keep that in mind
Thanks for the great blog post!
Love vintage prop rentals! I did a silly thing last year and bought hundreds of pieces of milkglass with the same intention...still haven't gotten to listing it all. Although my friends are using it for their weddings!
